Synopsis

Fresh brains roasting on an open fire...

Yes, Christmas is on its way - and all the little boys and ghouls are dreaming of stockings filled with candied eyes and bleeding body parts.  You'd better watch out!  Santa Claws is coming to town - and he knows who's been naughty, who's been naughtier... and who'll taste best with a nice glass of Chianti!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies takes over two dozen of our most beloved Christmas carols and shreds them from limb, rewriting them from a zombie's point-of-view.  Tiny tots' eyes are no longer aglow - they're in a bowl.  And Mommy's not kissing Santa under the mistletoe - she's chewing his face. Nobody - not Rudolf, Old Saint Nick, or even those three Wise Guys who traveled afar - is spared when the undead come knocking.

With a foreword by Christopher Moore and jaw-dropping (literally) sketches accompanying each carol, this book will be the perfect holiday gift for humor lovers and anyone needing a break from Christmas-as-usual.

Review

I love Christmas.  I really do...

Not convinced?  Honestly, I DO love Christmas!  I love the traditions; the planning and preparations; spending time with loved ones; exchanging of gifts; sharing decadent meals; playing games and endless laughter.  But I have to say, with retail shops beginning the festive countdown as early as October - followed by countless Christmas events at school, extra curricular activities and work functions - by the time Christmas Eve arrives, my enthusiasm for carol singing is all but extinguished.

Having just survived my first (and hopefully last) experience of late night shopping on the eve of Christmas Eve I was about to settle down to gift wrapping when I spotted the pile of books which had arrived earlier in the week.  Jeff Weigel's macabre characters were calling for my attention - offering me a much needed break from the traditional imagery of Christmas.

If you're anything like me, you will enjoy It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Zombies! and will appreciate Michael Spradlin's humourously morbid take on the festive cheer.  A great gift for the Scrooges in your family or anyone who finds all that tinsel and non-stop carol singing somewhat over the top.

So next Christmas, when you find yourself queueing for eternity; feeling the heat rise as tired and grumpy shoppers surround you en masse; and that familiar tune begins to play, soothe the  mounting tension by recalling Michael Spradlin's lyrics: 'It's beginning to look a lot like Zombies, Everywhere you go.' and smile.  :o)
