About the Author

Kathy Knudsen is a Sydney-based chef, freelance recipe developer and cake decorator.  After completing a four-year apprenticeship in a leading Hotel in Sydney, she spent six months working as a chef at the Sheraton, Alice Springs.  Kathy has made more than 20 years industry experience as a chef, food editor, food stylist and recipe deceloper.

She lives on the Northern Beaches with her husband and three young children who love to help their mum bake!

Kathy Knudsen's step-by-step instructions are easy to follow and her hints and tips throughout the book guide and teach a variety of cake decorating techniques.

Both novice and experienced cake decorators will be inspired by the quirky cake ideas.  Although the designs are beased on characters from television programmes targetted towards pre-schoolers, there are plenty of cakes in here which would appeal to older children such as the  fairy and the princess (which is built around a Barbie-type doll).  Likewise, I know several people (including adults) who would delight in receiving a 'Fergus the Frog' or a 'Shaun the Sheep' to celebrate turning another year older.  Unsurprisingly, the budding ballerina of the household was immediately drawn to the Angelina Ballerina shoes - and I have to admit, not only are they truly unique, but oh so simple (once Kathy shows you how!).

The cupcake suggestions in The ABC Book of Children's Cakes will show you how easy it is to create spectacular treats to suit every occasion and theme.  And I haven't a doubt that those who are creatively inclined will make great use of the templates to design their own unique and quirky creations.
