Synopsis

What do you do when you find your husband is going to leave you... not for another woman, but to become a woman??

West Auckland beach babe turned Remuera trophy wife, Tara Whitehead is sitting pretty.  Then Richard, her husband, makes his startling announcement: he has decided to leave her to become a woman.

With no money and her 'friends' no longer returning her calls, Tara is forced to leave her gorgeous home so that Ruchard can pay for his surgery.

Fate in the unlike form of her husband's reprobate uncle, intervenes.  Determined to pursue gentle Miss Lillian, he leaves everything to Tara's daughter, and moves into the loval retirement village.

With nowhere else to go, Tara moves with her daughter to the country to begin her life in the sleepy village of Divine, as fast as her designer stilettos will take her.

Instead, there's the infuriating dairy farmer she keeps clashing with, a scurrilous property developer, and a disgraceful incident at a PTS meeting.  And mud.  Lots of mud.  With manure.

Tara is dogged by financial worries until her mysterious friend Sian makes her an unexpected offer of a telephone job under the new name of Mistress Fury.  Tara's life moves from slightly unhinged to hilariously bizarre - and the sleepy little town of Divine will never be the same...

About the Author

Michelle Holman's best selling first novel, Bonkers, was a comedic hit with women of all ages.  Originally from West Auckland, Michelle is a registered nurse who now manages community youth health projects in the Waikato.

Michelle writes her novels for people who are like her - who like a good romance but not slush, who appreciate what it is to be a Kiwi and how unique we alla re, and most importantly who like a good laugh.

Michelle says that, unlike Bonkers, she didn't dream up Divine: it was triggered by a documentary about transgender people making the trip to Trinidad, COlorado, for sex reassignment surgery.  'It got me thinking: what would it be like if your husband decided to leave you to become a woman?  How would somebody deal with that?  Tara became that somebody.'

And the telephone sex slant?  Michelle has a good friend who has the most gorgeous, posh English accent.  'I told my friend she should give up her job and be a telephone sex worker.  "You can be at home doing the dusting and make money!"  I'm disappointed that she hasn't followed up on my advice.  If I wasn't writing, I think I'd make a great careers advisor.'

Review

Michelle Holman tackles emotionally charged and at times taboo topics in an easy to read, highly entertaining and light-hearted fashion. Whether you're a city girl or born and bred in the country, you will find Tara's antics on the farm hillarious.

The residents of Divine range from the excentric to the exotic and from the down-to-earth to the down right dirty - all of whom you'll grow to love or love to hate.

This book is everything a girl wants for an enjoyable read: a strong-headed heroine, a strong-bodied hunk, an interesting plot, a good dose of passion and a gorgeous irresistable cover!!

Divine is chick-lit at its best.  Guaranteed to have you laughing out loud and the perfect way to unwind after a busy day.  In fact, I highly recommend reading it whilst lounging under a shady tree or soaking in a warm bath with a glass of your favourite poison close at hand.
